A relevant point, however, is the one made by one of the opinion writers in the NYT in reaction to this particular supreme court decision is that a minuscule percentage of black (or any students) are affected by extra points given at Harvard or other elite colleges because the vast majority go to schools that are not very selective or not selective at all. What is urgently needed is more money spent on those schools and a relief of student debts for the lowest income students. Susanne

I wasn't really analyzing the impact on the educational opportunity for Black students in this piece, but rather commenting on the sorry state of White attitudes about addressing the impacts of past and present racism. I agree with you that for the vast majority of students, elite college admissions policies is far from their primary concern.
