Thank you so much! Not in total, but your column is generally what I wanted to write to the New York Times editorial board (and other reactive journalists and politicians) immediately after the debate and this morning when reading the front page of the NYT Opinion section. I and my husband are long time subscribers to the NYT and stopped our weekly subscription this morning - enough already!! We will be fighting hard for the Biden/Harris ticket.

I totally agree with Lunn that David has written an excellent column that he ought to submit to the New York Times or the Washington Post to counter the call and response reverberations among their opinion writers that Joe Biden should withdraw. This morning, however, I had a conversation with a friend who is a general practitioner who sees an aging clientele. It was his assessment that Joe Biden is manifesting symptoms of Parkinson's Disease similar to what we have seen in Mitch McConnell. The halting gait, the expressionless face, slack jaw, momentary stoppages in his speech, meandering thought patterns. If we Democrats are going to prosecute the argument that Trump is unfit for the presidency, which he most certainly is, we should hold ourselves to the same standard. Sarah Longwell of The Bulwark has proposed that President Biden be "persuaded" to withdraw and that the Democratic Governor's Association could/should meet and propose a ticket to the Democratic Convention, a ticket likely headed by Governor Shapiro or Governor Whitmer, or perhaps Governor Pritzker. I would suggest Cory Booker as the VP since Kamala Harris is weak politically. Joe Biden has been a remarkable president, absolutely the man for the moment, but that moment has passed. Joe has powered through untold tragedy in his life that most certainly has taken a toll on his righteous soul. In his late 70s he summoned the energy and mental toughness to win a campaign to save our democracy. At age 81 it is time for him to bequeath his political legacy to a younger generation as he accepts the gratitude of a beholden nation.
