You are exactly right!!! Thank you for writing this article.
Trump has taken an ignorant stand and a wrecking ball to our international alliances. My heart breaks for the people of Ukraine. I have traveled there many times in the past.
It's water down the drain but ..."At the time of Ukraine’s independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, Ukraine held the third largest nuclear arsenal in the world, including an estimated 1,900 strategic warheads, 176 intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), and 44 strategic bombers. By 1996, Ukraine had returned all of its nuclear warheads to Russia in exchange for economic aid and security assurances, and in December 1994, Ukraine became a non-nuclear weapon state-party to the 1968 nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT). The last strategic nuclear delivery vehicle in Ukraine was eliminated in 2001 under the 1991 Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START). It took years of political maneuvering and diplomatic work, starting with the Lisbon Protocol in 1992, to remove the weapons and nuclear infrastructure from Ukraine." copied from https://www.armscontrol.org/factsheets/ukraine-nuclear-weapons-and-security-assurances-glance
As for Afghanistan, these are the facts. Trump lives in a fact free world - so I know many of his followers like to do so as well. The Jan. 6 perpetrators were victims. Ukraine started the war. And so on. As for my prediction about Ukraine, I would be thrilled to be wrong and will readily admit it if I am. But if you are rooting for Trump to limit Russian aggression, it isn't looking too good for you so far.
Well ok, you say it's not looking too good for Trump so far. OK, for one thing he hasn't even been on the job for a month yet. Can you tell what Biden did to resolve the war since the most recent leg of the war started on February 24, 2022, almost 3 years ago?
Yep. Saved Ukraine from immediate defeat by rallying NATO to come to Ukraine’s defense and imposed massive sanctions on Russia to weaken its economy, at least at the beginning of the war until it was bailed out by China. I never thought I would live to see the day that we are on the same side of a UN resolution as Belarus, North Korea, Iran and Russia and against all our NATO partners and Pacific allies. Brett Stephens got it right the other day when he said that Trump’s abandonment of Ukraine is a “day that will live in infamy.”

The comparison with Afghanistan is so on target. Our strategy mg has n the sidelines is more likely to start wars than end them.

Just like you've been wrong about everything else pertaining to Trump, you'll be wrong about this. That I'm certain of.
